Kuoleva Joutsen

Kuoleva Joutsen (Dying Swan) was originally choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to prima ballerina Anna Pavlova in 1905. Later the prima ballerina assoluta of Bolshoi, Maya Plisetskaya, made the “swan” her signature piece – performing it still at the tender age of 70. My version of the Dying Swan uses some elements that Plisetskaya made famous, but otherwise it’s a new interpretation of the immortal classic. This choreography celebrated the 110th birthday of the original Dying Swan, but at the same time the ballet world suffered a tremendous lost – a week after the performances my greatest inspiration, Maya Plisetskaya, died at the age of 89.
